Student Testimonials

Working with Amy has been an incredible experience for my son, Jacob. He's so proud of how far he's come and everything he's accomplished under her guidance. Amy has a truly individualized approach to teaching. She takes the time to get to know each student's musical interests and what motivates them, which has been key in keeping Jacob engaged. Burnout is never an issue because she balances pieces that build his skills with pieces he's genuinely interested in learning. Amy goes above and beyond to accommodate her students. When Jacob wanted to explore the saxophone in jazz band, she encouraged him to play a piano-sax duet for a recital. She even found special one-handed music for him after he broke his finger. Jacob always looks forward to the Multiple Piano Festival in the fall, where he gets to play fun pieces with his friends. Amy's teaching style is both personal and effective, and I highly recommend her to any parent looking for a fantastic piano teacher.

Amy Watt is a kind, patient, compassionate, and inspiring piano teacher. My daughter has thrived under her guidance and care for the past few years. Now, my youngest daughter is delighted to be learning piano from Amy as well. When you watch Amy instruct, it is evident that she cares deeply for her students and is enthusiastic about music education. Amy is extremely knowledgeable and provides practical and consistent feedback for student success. She breaks down compositions into manageable sections for mastery. She leads with compassion and quiet encouragement that instills confidence in her students. Amy is able to tailor her instruction to meet the individual needs of her students. To showcase their success, Amy invites her students to participate in various festivals and recitals throughout the year. This goal oriented instruction provides motivation for students in a fun, safe way. My daughter’s favorite experience has been the Multiple Piano Festival. The event inspired her to focus and make significant progress in her musical journey as well as learning valuable life skills like determination, consistency, and collaboration. Furthermore, her sister was so enthralled by the festival that she signed up to participate this year too! We appreciate the wide range of musical selection that Amy offers as well as catering to her student’s style and preferences. Amy is a student focused instructor who desires for all of her kids to love and appreciate music. I highly recommend Amy Watt as a passionate, patient, and effective piano instructor for your child.

Amy has worked with our son August over the past 8 years. She has tirelessly worked with him from elementary school to high school. Over this time she has taught him through the pandemic as well as our family travels. She went above and beyond when we picked up our family’s belongings and spent a year in Africa. She continued to work with August half way around the world despite the difficulty of keeping up over the distance and time difference. She has encouraged our son to not only keep up with his talents but to participate in performances, evaluations and recitals regularly. She works with him on a weekly basis and gives him assignments to home his skills at home. She tailors the music to his interests and skill level and provides feedback weekly. We recommend her for her dedication and efforts.

I began to take piano lessons with Ms. Watt when I was seven years old, and will never forget that first introductory lesson when she came to the music classroom at my elementary school to meet me for the first time. Although I was quite shy back then, she was able to help me "break out of my shell" and to patiently assess and improve my piano skills. My parents knew from then forward that she would be the perfect teacher to develop my interest in music. Three years later when I demonstrated interest in music composition, she kindly helped me to compose my first few pieces and did not hesitate to refer me to a composition teacher while still advising me on my new pieces. Later when I was ten, I began to teach piano to my own students, and Ms. Watt was always so helpful in assisting me to learn the art of music teaching, even allowing my students to play in our studio piano recitals. We really enjoyed this and were all so grateful, always looking forward to the next recital. She also prepared me exceptionally well for the Certificate of Merit test every year, all the way up to the final level. Currently I am a freshman music major at the Thornton School of Music of the University of Southern California, and I can honestly say that I would not have been accepted to this school if not for her wonderful work, as she has prepared me so well for advanced music study throughout the years. Ms. Watt is the nicest and best piano teacher ever with an abundance of experience, and I am sure she would be the perfect teacher for your child as well.

How can I write a testimonial about someone who is beyond compare? Let me see if I can do some justice.
I am located in Northern California. When I was looking for a piano teacher for my then 7 year old son, a teacher I had originally contacted, recommended Amy because she didn't have time. One has to believe in destiny...We met Amy and started piano lessons which continued for many years. She had the patience of a saint as she worked with my son, and taught him to enjoy music and the piano. She made classes fun and exciting-kids received stickers for practicing. We had recitals that were so enjoyable...wonderful concerts, where we enjoyed listening to other budding musicians, met many lovely families. And over eight years, my son went without fail and passed the California Certificate of Merit exams with Amy's wonderful guidance. I recommended many people to her who brought their children. We all were devastated when she left us to move to Colorado and to this day all the kids say to their parents- why can't you find another teacher like Ms. Amy?

I recommend Amy Watt unequivocally to teach your child a beautiful art that you can cherish for life. You will not find another person who will teach your child music and nurture them like they should be.

My son Andrew has taken lesson from Amy since 3rd grade and we have seen dramatic improvement over the years. Hands down Amy is the best piano teacher we've encounter thus far. I'd highly recommend Amy to students interested in learning piano, they will sure benefit from her style of teaching.
